French helmet maker Roof has revealed a new carbon flip-up helmet which looks like something a Star Wars trooper would wear.

You might not have heard of them, but Roof has been around since 1993 to be exact, and the brand is probably best known for its ‘Boxxer’ style lids.

Now, it has this full carbon helmet that’s been added to the mix which is the Desmo 3 edition. Along with its carbon fibre construction which has helped make the helmet lighter than before, it also features a photochromic visor, which means it can automatically darken based on the amount of sunlight.

The visor is both anti-scratch and anti-fog, while the helmet comes with a ‘Desmo Tool’ which allows you to change visors. The helmet is ECE R22.06 certified with double P/J homologation, allowing it to be used in both the open and full-face configuration.

Roof has also given its new Desmo 3 lid a revised chin guard opening system, which now includes a central release mechanism. As I mentioned the helmet has been made lighter as part of its return to the French company’s line-up, weighing just 1,570 grams.

The interior of the helmet is antibacterial and includes a fast-drying comfort lining that is removable, washable and suitable for glasses wearers. As is the case with the Boxxer range, Roof has provided the Desmo 3 Carbon helmet with its clever comfort customisation system. Furthermore, additional foams are supplied as standard in the box.

The helmet is available in seven sizes, which range from XS all the way to XXL. The Desmo 3 is available in two carbon finishes, which are shiny or matte carbon. The retail price comes in at €649 (around £560) and that includes tax.

The new helmet from Roof is expected to be available for purchase at the beginning of October.
