Italjet launches unconventional Roadster 400 scooter

Italjet’s latest EICMA reveal has turned heads, as the all-new Roadster 400 is as unconventional a scooter as you could find.

Italjet has taken the covers off its all-new Roadster 400 ‘scooter’, and I say scooter lightly, because the two-wheeler is so high-spec that it would arguably be more at home being called a motorcycle.

When a new model arrives kitted out in Ohlins suspension, twin Akrapovic exhaust pipes and Nissin brakes, like the new Roadster 400, convincing people that it’s not a high-powered motorcycle would most likely take some effort.

But Italjet is not exactly known for producing traditional-looking scooters. The new Dragster 700 Twin is an example of that, which is driven by the same 692cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine that powers the Benelli TRK 702.

The Dragster 700 Twin also features Brembo brakes, Marzocchi front forks, ABS and traction control, just to give you an idea of how high-spec the scooter is.

But with the new Roadster 400, Italjet is shifting focus away from its Dragster platform, which currently comes in four flavours including the 125cc, 200cc, 300cc and above-mentioned 700 Twin.

The new Roadster 400, unveiled at EICMA, will debut a new DLAS (Dynamic Linkage Articulated Steering) system, which is “an evolution of Italjet’s iconic single-arm design that delivers both precision and unmistakable visual identity”, according to the Bologna-based brand.

The Roadster 400 is powered by a 394cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 41.5bhp at 7,500 rpm and 30.3 Ib-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm.

Going into further detail about the new model, Italjet said “with the Roadster, we believe we’ve created more than just a scooter, it’s truly Art in Motion. Its design pays homage to the classic silhouettes of the past, while drawing inspiration from fighter jets.

As you’ve probably noticed by the pictures, Italjet has blessed the new Roadster with sculpted side panels which “reference turbine intakes”, it adds. The new side panels act as functional cooling ducts that channel air to the twin radiators.

The new Roadster 400 will be available globally from September 2026 at an estimated retail price of €7,500 (roughly £6,600), and that includes VAT.
