Max Toth makes Bagger World Cup comeback at British MotoGP
American youngster Max Toth replaces the injured Cory West as the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup arrives at Silverstone.
Max Toth will make his return from injury this weekend after being confirmed as Cory West's replacement for the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup round at Silverstone.
The young American joins Saddlemen Race Development this weekend at the British MotoGP meeting, after West was ruled out following injuries sustained in a crash during practice for the latest MotoAmerica King of the Baggers round at Mid-Ohio.
Toth's appearance marks a comeback of his own. Earlier this year, the American suffered a serious leg injury that interrupted his season, but he is now fit enough to return to racing on one of the biggest stages of the year as the Bagger World Cup heads to the MotoGP paddock.
Although this will be his first appearance in the FIM-sanctioned Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, Toth is no stranger to the Saddlemen Harley-Davidson Road Glide. He previously stood in for the team's regular riders at Ridge Motorsports Park while they were competing in the World Cup round at Mugello, giving him valuable experience on the bike before his Silverstone debut.
His arrival means the championship grid returns to 11 riders, with Toth partnering Travis Wyman in the Saddlemen Race Development squad while West continues his recovery.
The Silverstone event will also see former MotoGP race winner Bradley Smith make his debut in the championship. Racing as a wildcard for ParkinGO Team in front of his home crowd, Smith adds another familiar name to a grid that already features former MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone and ex-World Superbike champion Jordi Torres.
On track, the inaugural title fight remains close, with Eric Granado arriving at Silverstone leading the standings on 111 points. Behind him is Oscar Gutiérrez, only two points back, with Archie McDonald a further 12 points adrift in third. With six races remaining across three events (Silverstone, Aragón and the Red Bull Ring), there are still 150 points available, leaving the championship wide open heading into the second half of the season.
