Iconic Suzuki SV650 set to be revived using SV-7GX engine

After being discontinued in Europe for 2026, the adored Suzuki SV650 looks set to make a return to the company’s line-up for 2027.

The iconic SV650 was first launched in 1999 and lived on until 2026, when it was dropped from the brand’s middleweight line-up alongside the V-Strom 650. 

Discontinued after failing to meet the latest Euro5+ emissions standards, the SV650 was still sold in the United States this year. 

Its return to Suzuki’s European line-up was teased via an executive order made by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which in recent weeks has also confirmed new Ducati Panigale V4 SP and Streetfighter V4 SP models for 2027.

The SV650 will use the same 645cc V-twin engine platform adopted by the recently-introduced SV-7GX, which was first unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, last November.

That means performance is also likely to mirror the SV-7GX, which produces a claimed 72.4 bhp at 8,500rpm and 47.2 Ib-ft of torque at 6,800rpm.

It’s important to remember where the SV-7GX was launched, as Suzuki could choose EICMA as the launchpad for its updated SV650, too. 

However, it all remains to be seen when and where the 2027 model will be revealed, as Suzuki has not released any information regarding the SV650’s return.

We also don’t know whether the SV650 will undergo any major styling changes compared to its predecessor. 

While the SV650 is likely to be the next motorcycle arriving in the company’s middleweight range, there has also been rumours of a sportbike variant, which would also share the same engine platform as the SV-7GX and SV650.
