Honda’s Japan Mobility Show plans have us intrigued

Honda’s Japan Mobility Show plans have us very intrigued. Is yet another electric motorcycle in the works?

Thirteen two-wheel vehicles, a teeny-tiny electric car with a wheelbase shorter than the overall length of a Harley-Davidson Street Glide, and a rocket. Those are just some of the things Honda will be showing off in Tokyo later this month.

The two-wheelers are what have most of our attention, of course - especially an electric concept vehicle that may be something we haven’t seen before.

Honda’s Japan website this week released the full exhibit list for the company’s booth at the Tokyo Mobility Show (formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show), which takes place 29 October to 9 November.

Thanks to this information, we know we’ll be seeing the CB1000F and CB1000F SE that were unveiled earlier this year. Both are listed as “planned commercial models,” so we’ll likely be seeing them in dealerships very soon.

We also know that we’ll be seeing the EV Urban Concept vehicle (aka, an electric scooter along the lines of BMW’s CE-04) that Big Red showed off at last year’s EICMA. That vehicle was displayed along the so-called EV Fun Concept electric motorcycle, which has since become the WN7 and is set to arrive in dealerships early next year. We’d expect the EV Urban Concept to follow suit and go from “concept” to “planned production model” very soon.

However, one thing that’s particularly piqued our interest about Honda’s Japan Mobility Show plans is the promise of the world premier of a “two-wheel EV concept vehicle” that clearly isn’t the EV Urban Concept scooter. It also isn’t the battery-swappable CUV e: (yes, spelled with a colon) electric scooter that hit the UK market back in July. That’s listed elsewhere in Honda’s exhibit list.

We’d assume, as well, that it isn’t the WN7. After all, that bike’s got a name and a release date.

It seems reasonable to think that the nameless concept vehicle that’s the subject of a world premier is something else entirely. So, what is it?

Honestly, we don’t know. An obvious choice would be an electric sportbike, but Honda doesn’t always take the obvious path.

We’ll be watching.

Meanwhile, the teeny-tiny electric car we mentioned at the start of the article? That’s the new N-ONE e: (again, the colon’s supposed to be there), sales of which began last month. The small, electric kei car boasts a range of 183 miles. Considering the fact it’s not THAT much bigger than a motorcycle, the tech contained within could be relevant to the two-wheel world in the not too distant future. Electric Gold Wing anyone?
