BikeTrac Celebrates Biggest Ever Recovery Haul – 25 Bikes in One Day
The motorcycle tracker company BikeTrac is celebrating today, after its technology led police to 25 stolen bikes on the same day

A stolen motorcycle equipped with a BikeTrac tracker has led police to a vast haul of 25 bikes, just before they were due to leave the country in a shipping container.
The incredible recovery stems from just a single BMW R125 GS equipped with one of BikeTrac’s tracking systems, which was stolen in Richmond on Thames and led police teams to a site in Essex. Making the recovery of the bike more tricky was its movements once it had been located. The bike, tucked away in a shipping container, began travelling, ending up in an ominous shipping container yard at Tilbury Docks.
With security tight at the docks, the BikeTrac and the authorities had to convince the site operators beyond any doubt that the stolen bike was in the location - something BikeTrac’s tracking systems have covered, thanks to radio frequency technology. Once the container had been located, the police cracked it open, but the scene that unfiolded was not what anyone expected.

“When we managed to get the shipping container door open, we were met with hundreds of bicycles and several cars, but as soon as these started to be unloaded, the first bike came into view and then another, and another and another, with bikes even hung from the container ceiling. A total of 20 stolen bikes were eventually discovered, but amazingly, it didn’t end there.” BikeTrac’s Bill Taylor, explained.
In what is undoubtedly BikeTrac’s largest single recovery to date, the Met’s Organised Vehicle Crime Unit uncovered further evidence linking this case to last month’s successful operation with West Midlands Police. Acting on tracking data from a previously identified location, officers discovered an additional five stolen motorcycles. This brings the total number of recovered bikes to 25, all of which were stolen within the last three months from various locations, including London, Essex, Sussex, Dorset, and Cambridgeshire.

Taylor concluded, “We have been attending the scene of recoveries for more than 15 years now, but this one was without question the biggest we’ve ever witnessed. The number of bikes, the value of those machines and how these had been hidden and loaded, ready to leave the country was immense. We’re incredibly grateful to the authorities for having the faith in our product to allow access. This is very much down to the Radio Frequency technology that we have stood by as a must have on our product since the very beginning of BikeTrac. It;s incredibly gratifying that just one bike fitted with a BikeTrac unit has led to this. A big thanks from us to all involved in this truly monumental recovery.”
