The Laser 4764 Motorcycle Coil Spring Compressor is just the tool you need if you want to dismantle, restore or upgrade your bike’s rear shock absorber.

How often do you want to take apart your bike’s rear shock? Probably not that often, but when you do, either to clean it thoroughly, maybe repaint it, perhaps to fit a different ‘weight’ spring or to work on the damping unit, you need one of these.

A motorcycle coil spring compressor does exactly what it says on the tin: it compresses the spring in a shock absorber unit to enable you to remove the spring and thereafter re-condition or replace it or perhaps upgrade the damper.

The thing is, as most such springs are under extreme tension, they’re impossible to compress safely without one of these.

The Laser 4764 Motorcycle Coil Spring Compressor, available via Machine Mart, costs £59.98, is packed in a neat, bespoke box, is designed specifically for motorcycles and basically comprises two purpose designed clamps, each with two jaws.

With the shock removed from your bike you position the clamps on opposite sides of the spring with their jaws around the spring curls then slowly and alternatingly tighten the clamps via a 17mm socket or spanner (not supplied) to tighten the clamps evenly and compress the spring. When the spring is compressed sufficiently you’ll be able to remove the spring cups or retaining collar and then the spring. The kit also comes with two replacement plastic jaws if spares are required.

It all works impressively enough, is decently made and is good value. Not that you should just take our word for it, of course – the Laser 4764 Motorcycle Coil Spring Compressor has also received glowing recommendations on the Machine Mart website with many reviewers awarding it 5/5. These include:
Philip: “Quality product, well packaged in a metal case. Perfect size for compressing monoshock springs.”
Brad: “A fantastic, compact and entirely practical solution to coil spring removal and fitting. Many thanks a machine Mart.”
