2003 Sete Gibernau Movistar livery revived by Ducati team at German MotoGP

Gresini Racing has revealed a special Sete Gibernau 2003 throwback livery for this weekend’s German MotoGP.

Alex Marquez will race a Sete Gibernau 2003-inspired ‘Movistar’ livery during Sunday’s German MotoGP at Sachsenring.

The livery will only be raced by Marquez, though, as team-mate Fermin Aldeguer has been ruled out of the event due to injury.

The throwback livery mimics the colours used by Gibernau in 2003, albeit without Movistar branding, since it is not one of Gresini Racing’s current sponsors. More importantly, the design has been revealed as a celebration of the team’s 30th anniversary.

Gresini will be hoping that history repeats itself this weekend, as Gibernau took the livery to victory in 2003 when he produced a now famous last-ditch overtake to beat Valentino Rossi.

The revived paint scheme comes off the back of a very busy few days for the team, which is set to lose Marquez for the 2027 season.

Marquez was confirmed as a new factory KTM rider earlier this week, where he will be joined by fellow Ducati star Fabio di Giannantonio.

Those announcements at KTM were followed by Gresini revealing its own line-up for the 2027 850cc era. 2020 MotoGP champion Joan Mir will be riding one of the team’s Desmosedici bikes next season, and he will be joined by rookie Dani Holgado.

The current Moto2 racer is the first rookie to be confirmed for the 2027 MotoGP campaign, but more are expected to join the grid.

Gresini Racing is also the only satellite team to have officially confirmed its full rider line-up for next season, while four out of the five (Ducati, Aprilia, Yamaha and KTM) factory teams have already secured their line-up.
