42-year-old MotoGP record and milestone win number beckon for Marco Bezzecchi

A Freddie Spencer win record that has stood for 42 years could be matched at this weekend’s German MotoGP by Marco Bezzecchi.

If things go Marco Bezzecchi’s way at this weekend’s German MotoGP, a 42-year-old record could be matched, while a winning milestone for Italy could also be achieved.

The 42-year-old record was set by Freddie Spencer in 1984, as the American rider became the first to win 11 races at 11 different circuits.

Spencer’s first premier class win was achieved at Spa in 1982, before going on to win another 10 races at different venues until 1984. Bezzecchi is currently sat at 10 MotoGP wins, which were achieved at the following circuits: Termas 2023, Le Mans 2023, Buddh 2023, Silverstone 2025, Portimão 2025, Valencia 2025, Buriram 2026, Goiânia 2026, COTA 2026, and Mugello 2026.

By winning at Sachsenring, Bezzecchi would therefore tie Spencer’s record, although a victory might be considered somewhat unlikely given that this is a track which has been thoroughly dominated by Marc Marquez throughout his career.

If Marquez is successful in winning at the German venue, the nine-time world champion would equal Giacomo Agostini on 10 wins at the same circuit. Marquez began his winning run at Sachsenring in 2013, and was unbeaten until he missed the race in 2022 – Sachsenring did not hold a MotoGP race in 2020.

However, if Bezzecchi does get the better of Marquez, and several other names such as Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura, both of whom are expected to be contenders, then he would also secure a major milestone for his home nation.

Italian riders are currently responsible for 299 premier class wins, but securing Italy’s 300th win is likely to also come under threat from the likes of Fabio di Giannantonio, who is the only other Italian alongside Bezzecchi to have won a Grand Prix in 2026.
