Overall Review

I've owned 40 motorcycles over the last 30 years and this is by far my favorite. Plenty of power, decent comfort with an Airhawk seat cover, great whenever the possibility of a dirt road exists. Came off a late model Sportster -- the DRZ's weight is a grand improvement. I converted the standard "S" to an "SSM" configuration -- semi-Super Motard -- using a lightweight 19" front wheel, a 320 mm disc brake and Kouba link rear lowering kit. Just got back from Death Valley, enjoying treks thru Titus Canyon, West Side Road and visiting The Racetrack.

Strengths

Awesome in the curves, little or no maintenance, light enough to be decent in the dirt

Weaknesses

Forget carrying a passenger, lousy on motorways / American freeways, limited range

Overall Review

Have owned one for two years, this example when I bought it had low miles but spent most of it's short life being thrashed round muddy Welsh hillsides, and it showed, scuffs, dinges bent rads, new plastics, sump guard made from a recycled Challenger tank, all the signs of a hard life. I hasn't let me down once since I bought it and has covered an additional 7000 miles since then, a cracking second bike.

Strengths

Engine, 40 bhp is spot on, not too little or too much, commutes at 80 mph, handles well on the road, grinding the foot pegs is possible on roundabouts with a little effort, at the weekend drop a set of knobblies on and go chasing rabbits across the fields which it does with panache, suspension is no compromise on the DRZ. Economical to run, 70mpg, even flat out all the time, really cheap insurance.

Weaknesses

Gets bit lairy with the steering anything over 80mph. Hard seat 1 hour max. poor lighting, but these are all problems all enduro bikes suffer from. Battery goes flat v quickly without a trickle charger and are expensive to replace other than that no real weaknesses.

Overall Review

fit bar raisers and aftermarket bars, bark busters etc... gear up the E model, gear down the S model.

Strengths

motor strong, electric start, good head lights and speedo. You'll never win a race but you'll always get home with only the occasional oil change etc.. $9,000AU compared to $14,000AU for a comp bike is pretty good

Weaknesses

uncomfy seat, handlebars too low. Shakes onroad, a little heavy in the sand

Overall Review

Love my DRZ Its a bike full of character and if you have to commute through a busy town theirs not alot quicker

Strengths

Brilliant commutor bike with enough power to out accelerate most cars and high bars ideal for threading through traffic. I have got bridgestone trailwing tyres on which are poor ofroad but brilliant on road but they do wear out quickly. Really good bike through the twisty stuff. lots of them around so 2nd hand bits cheap and easy to obtain. Easy to work on

Weaknesses

Poor brakes, chain snatch, twitchy high speed handling, fuel tank abit small apart from that brilliant
