Suzuki’s retro take on its middleweight platform has just been boosted with quite possibly the coolest colour scheme we’ve seen all year.

The canvas for the new look is the GSX-8TT, while the inspiration apparently comes from the iconic GS1000 from the late 70s and early 80s. There are a brace of new colours to speak of, but by the most evocative and eye-catching is the red one you can see at the top of the page.

Officially called Candy Daring Red, the new colour adorns the fuel tank, seat unit and headlight cowl, while the cowling and the fuel tank are finished with gold and black striped decals. The bike’s model name decal on the seat unit also uses the same colours.

Boosting the look of the bike even further is the addition of gold wheels, because everyone knows that gold wheels make a bike faster and easier on the eye.

Underneath that new paintwork, however, it’s business as usual for the GSX-8TT. The bike uses Suzuki’s 798cc parallel-twin engine, producing 80bhp at 8,500rpm and 57lb-ft of torque at 6,800rpm, with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch.

There are three engine modes, traction control and a quickshifter, while suspension comes from KYB with 43mm USD forks at the front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by twin 310mm front discs with Nissin four-piston calipers.

The TT gets a 16.5-litre fuel tank, a TFT display, LED lighting and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. Kerb weight is 203kg, while the seat height is 810mm.

The big difference between the GSX-8TT and the GSX-8T remains the TT’s headlight cowl and the slightly larger fuel tank of the TT, which incorporates an aero vent to help smooth airflow at higher speeds. It also gains a belly pan and, of course, the slightly racier overall look.

So, while the new red and gold version doesn’t bring any mechanical changes, it does give Suzuki’s retro middleweight another way to stand out. And, frankly, we reckon this one looks rather good.
