XCP Salt Remover promises to help fight winter better

Winter’s pretty much here, and that means riding on salty roads. This Scottish product claims to help.

Here’s something you may want if you’re planning on riding to this year’s Motorcycle Live – a Scottish-made product to ensure you don’t wear the signs of your visit.

There are plenty of good reasons to ride to Motorcycle Live, which takes place 15-23 November this year at the National Exhibition Centre on the outskirts of Birmingham. Parking for motorcycles is free at the event – under cover and relatively secure. There’s also a spot where you can check your gear for £2 an item.

However, if the weather is particularly chilly – as can often be the case in the Midlands in November – there’s a good chance that trucks will be spreading salt. And in my experience, there is no authority in Britain that loves spreading salt more than the folks in charge of looking after the M42, which you need to travel on to get to the NEC.

In some winters, I have ridden that road surrounded in a fine salty dust cloud, the road glistening with crystals of sodium chloride.

And this is where XCP Salt Remover comes in. Year-round riders will be familiar with the process of hosing down their bikes after winter rides. XCP takes things further, claiming to remove salt far more effectively than water alone.

“The Scottish-made, pH neutral solution removes salt deposits that would otherwise resin after rinsing, attract moisture and cause lasting damage,” explains an XCP media release. “[XCP is ] formulated to dissolve and remove salt deposits that ordinary cleaning misses.”

The process is simple, just add XCP as the first step in your post-ride hosedown. Hit the affected areas with a uniform spray, allow it to sit for a few minutes, then rinse it with water.

“It's pH neutral, biodegradable, and safe to use on all surfaces, so can be applied to bodywork, engine cases, brakes, wheels, or anywhere salt can creep in,” says XCP. “It also makes corrosion blockers more effective, giving them clean, salt-free surfaces to work with.”
