Sidi introduces new ADV-focused boots

Another day, another reveal from EICMA. This time it’s a pair of very sexy adventure boots from Sidi: the Taurus GTX.

OK, ‘sexy’ might not be your first choice of word for boots that look like they could be used for kicking through doors, but we saw them in person at EICMA and they had a very appealing quality. As in: “I need these in my life.”

Sidi says the Taurus GX is a “high-end adventure-touring boot” inspired by the company’s motocross heritage. The boots, Sidi says, were “created for riders who see the motorcycle as a tool for discovery.”

Having had a chance to fondle the boots in person (again, probably a poor word choice there), I can confirm that Sidi is telling the truth when it says that the Taurus GTX is lightweight yet built to be supportive and durable.

“Its combination of premium materials, GORE-TEX waterproof protection, and all-day comfort makes it the ideal partner for riders who travel beyond the tarmac,” Sidi says. 

The upper is made of “Technomicro microfiber” which looks and feels just a teeny little bit like suede, giving the boot a particularly unique aura. Inside, a “GORE-TEX

Performance Comfort” membrane keeps your toes nice and dry.

As an aside, it amazes me that after all these years, Gore-Tex is still arguably the best material for water protection. Countless manufacturers have offered up countless alternatives; some are very good, but none seem to have the reliability and longevity of Gore-Tex.

Meanwhile, the Taurus GTX boots are secured via a “dual NUUN 001M dial closure system” that can be adjusted with one hand. While a stretch panel across the tibia (aka, your shinbone) and a wide opening help to ensure the boots fit calves of all sizes. 

That’s ‘calves’ as in lower legs; not baby cows. Although, hey, you probably could put these on a baby cow, too. And they’d probably really appreciate it – having to stand around in the mud all day.

Back to the boots, Sidi says that a “Materiis rubber compound sole delivers exceptional grip and stability on any surface.”

Another aspect of these boots that stood out to me in person is that they do not look/feel comically chunky. You can see in the pictures that they are definitely robust, but in person one can see that it’s not over the top. So, you won’t necessarily have to adjust your brake and shift pedals, as is the case with some adventure boots.

The boots will be available in UK shops soon. The scuttlebutt we’ve heard is that retailers are very enthusiastic about them – expecting them to sell out quickly. The boots are available in Sand Ochre, Deep Forest, Black
