Carlos Ezpeleta has been promoted to the position of Deputy CEO ahead of next season’s major regulation changes in MotoGP.

Carlos is the son of long-standing MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, who will remain in his current role.

This decision is a clear sign that MotoGP’s current owners Liberty Media are continuing to back the Ezpeleta family, who have helped MotoGP become one of the most entertaining championships across all motorsport.

During the last ten years, Ezpeleta has steadily worked his way up the management chain, which resulted in him becoming the chief commercial officer most recently.

Speaking about his new role, Carlos Ezpeleta said:

“It is a great honour to take on this role at such an exciting moment for MotoGP. With incredible fans and partners around the world, I look forward to working with Liberty Media and the entire MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities and unlock the sport’s full potential.”

The management reshuffle comes at an important time for MotoGP, which is set to undergo its biggest regulation change since the series entered the MotoGP era in 2002.

At the forefront of these changes will be the switch to 850cc engines, while the championship will also be restricting the amount of aerodynamic parts used by teams. All ride-height and holeshot devices will also be banned.

In terms of Ezpeleta’s replacement as chief commercial officer, MotoGP has not yet confirmed who will take over that role.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group, said this about his son’s new position:

“Carlos has played a fundamental role in the growth of MotoGP over many years. His experience spans every part of our business, and his leadership, vision and passion for the sport make him the right person to help guide MotoGP into its next chapter.”
