Piaggio files trademark for new Aprilia X GP model
Piaggio has filed a new trademark for an Aprilia X GP model, which would make it the fifth limited edition model.
Piaggio has filed a new trademark for what will be the fifth limited edition Aprilia X model, following on from the RSV4 X ex3ma which sold all 30 units in just 76 days.
The ex3ma was built with MotoGP in mind as its technology trickled down from the brand’s factory racing project into the limited edition bike.
That will once again be expected with the new X GP model, and the new bike is set to be an even more extreme version of the RSV4.
Previous X bikes have been based on either RSV4 or Tuono models, with the first-ever X motorcycle landing in 2019, which was the RSV4 X. On that occasion the RSV4 X was introduced to celebrate 10 years of Aprilia’s premium superbike. The RSV4 X featured a carbon fiber fairing and Brembo GP4-MS billet brake calipers.
Aprilia then added the Tuono V4 X to its repertoire, which arrived as a track-only bike with full carbon fibre winglets.
Aprilia was far from done though as it took its X range to the next level with the introduction of the RSV4 XTrenta.
The new X model is expected to be the fourth model based on the RSV4, although we can’t completely dismiss the idea of a Tuono at this stage. Aprilia’s parent company Piaggio filed the trademark application with both the intellectual property offices in the European Union and the UK.
It’s believed the new X GP will be the most extreme variant to arrive so far, likely making it closer than ever in terms of power and tech to the prototype bikes raced in MotoGP.
