Royal Enfield launches new Classic 350 Gorkha Edition
Royal Enfield has launched a new military-inspired colourway aboard its Classic 350 model, however, it’s unlikely to be made available outside of India.
Royal Enfield has launched a special Classic 350 Gorkha Edition in India, which pays tribute to the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army.
The new colour is paired with specific Gorkha detailing on the fuel tank and side panels, but beyond that, no major styling changes have been made compared to the standard Classic 350 variants.
The Gorkha Edition makes use of the same 349cc air/oil-cooled single that produces 20.2bhp at 6.100rpm and 20 Ib-ft of torque at 4,000rpm.
It is also paired with the same 5-speed gearbox that’s housed by other Classic 350 models, while suspension and braking remain unchanged, too.
The suspension setup comprises 41mm telescopic front forks with 130mm of travel, alongside twin rear shock absorbers with six adjustable preload settings.
From there, a 300mm single brake disc is paired with a twin-piston caliper up front, while a slightly smaller 270mm disc is found at the rear, together with a single-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS completes the bike’s braking system.
Although Royal Enfield has kept information about the new bike somewhat limited, it says the Gorkha Edition is “built to honour the legacy of the Gorkhas, [and that] the new Classic 350 Gorkha Edition embodies the steadfastness, integrity and endurance of this celebrated regiment of the Indian Army”.
As you can see via the side panels, there is a crossing of two swords, which are called Khukri.
This is a reference to the curved knife associated with Gorkha soldiers. It also represents their famous battle cry, ‘Aayo Gorkhali’, meaning ‘The Gorkhas are here’.
Given its ties to the Indian Army, the bike is unlikely to make its way over to the UK, or other international markets for that matter.
