Insta360 launches GO Ultra: tiny, hands-free, and now in 4K

Tiny body, big sensor, and 4K60 video, Insta360’s new GO Ultra could be the ultimate pocket camera for bikers on the move.

Insta360 has just lifted the covers off its latest pocket-sized action camera, the GO Ultra. Still small enough to hang around your neck, stick to your tank, or clip to the (outside) of your lid. The new model brings a much bigger sensor, sharper video, and some clever AI upgrades designed to make shooting and sharing on the fly even easier.

The headline here is the sensor. Insta360 has given the GO Ultra a 1/1.28-inch chip, that is 221 per cent bigger than the old one, backed up by a new 5nm Ai processor. In plain English: more light, less noise, and smoother footage. The result is 4K at 60fps, with extras like Active HDR and PureVideo mode keeping things clear and bright even when the sun disappears behind the clouds.

Weighing in at just 53 grams, about the same as a smartwatch, the GO Ultra can be stuck just about anywhere. The magnetic base and upgraded Magnet Pendant let you go fully hands-free, while accessories like sticky pads, straps, or even a toddler’s hat clip (yes, really) mean you can shoot from just about any angle imaginable. Waterproofing to 10 metres (IPX8) makes it equally happy strapped to a surfboard, a BMX, or your trackday GSX-R.

Battery life is another big win. The standalone unit will run for around 70 minutes, but pair it with the supplied Action Pod and that jumps to 200 minutes. When it does run flat, fast charging will get you back to 80% in just 12 minutes - about enough time to grab a coffee at the next petrol stop. Storage is now handled by removable microSD cards (up to 2TB), finally fixing the fixed-memory gripe of the older GO 3S.

Editing and sharing are handled through the Insta360 app, which now has more AI-driven tricks for quick cutdowns, transitions, and syncing Strava or GPS data straight into your ride videos. If you’re the type who wants your Sunday blast uploaded before your leathers are even off, the auto-edit function is claimed to be able to do this for you.

One slight change from the previous GO 3S that riders might not like is the change in size and shape. The former tablet-shaped camera was the perfect size to mount up inside the helmet, unlocking the kind of riders-eye-views of the track that were made famous by Niccolò Canepa. The new GO Ultra looks as though it’s a slightly bulkier proposition, meaning it might not be quite so easy to tuck it up inside your lid. We’ll wait until we can get our hands on one to find out for sure.

The Insta360 GO Ultra is available from 21 August 2025, priced at £389 for the Standard Bundle, which includes the camera, Action Pod, mounts, and guards. Colours are Midnight Black or Arctic White.
