Bultaco Rally GT 300 revealed as mid-weight adventure motorcycle
Images taken at an off-road event in Spain have given us our first glimpse of the new Bultaco Rally GT 300, but the more you look, the more you realise that things may not be what they seem…
The storied off-road brand Bultaco seems to be sparking back into life. After a few years of focusing on electric and pedal-assisted off-road bicycles and lightweight dirt bikes, we finally have our first glimpse of a new petrol-powered adventure model. Although the word ‘new’ in the sentence is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Those of a certain, younger age might not be familiar with the brand, but Bultaco was once a very big player in the world of off-road, enduro, trials, short circuit and even road racing. The Easy Rider star, Peter Fonda, famously owned a 1968 Pursang 250 desert racer, and if you were looking for a lightweight and competition-focused machine in the 1950s and 60s, the Spanish brand was a name to consider.
As with many famous names from the past, though, Bultaco’s history isn’t one with a happy ending. The Barcelona factory closed its doors in 1983, remaining this way until it was snapped up by the Pandora Future Group in 2014. What followed was the aforementioned range of electric bikes for all ages. 2026, it seems, is the year that the brand is looking to return to doing what it is most famous for – proper petrol-powered motorbikes.
And this is its first, the Rally GT 300, quite clearly an adventure rally bike with, and this is an educated guess, a 300cc engine. But the more you take in the pictures of the bike, taken at an enduro and rally event at Moto Club Vilobí d'Onyar, Girona, the more the new model seems to be based on another, already existing adventure machine.
The bike in question is the Leonart Rally 300, another Spanish-only machine which comes in at €3,999 (around £3,430), is designed in Spain and manufactured and assembled in China.
Specs for the bike are unconfirmed at the time of writing, although reports suggest it has a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which produces around 28bhp. We’ll update this article once the official spec and features are released – along with whether or not it is expected to arrive in the UK.
