Can-Am to challenge the cost of motorcycling with showcase at MCL26

Can-Am says bikers could save around £2,700 by switching from a combustion engine motorcycle to electric.

Next month’s MCL26 show is set to feature an appearance from the Canadian company Can-Am, with the electric motorcycle maker wishing to challenge “conventional thinking about the cost of life on two wheels”.

In 2022, Can-Am launched its first new motorcycles in 35 years, with both the Origin dual-sport and Pulse roadster models.

And it's through these two motorcycles that the company wants to provide bikers with more information on how to make life on two wheels more affordable.

With fuel prices continuing to rise and showing no signs of slowing down, owning a motorcycle is becoming more and more expensive. However, Can-Am says that switching to electric bikes offers several cost-saving measures.

According to Can-Am, “the savings show that energy and maintenance costs for a petrol-powered motorcycle come to £3,900, compared with just £1,200 for an electric alternative, a potential saving of £2,700”.

It goes on to say that bikers should look beyond the initial purchase price when deciding to buy their next motorcycle, as the long-term impacts can vary quite substantially.

As part of its appearance at MCL26, Can-Am will showcase its Origin and Pulse motorcycles, as well as models from its three-wheel range.

Speaking ahead of the event, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on November 21-29, Mike Loach, district commercial manager of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), which owns Can-Am, said:

“The Origin and Pulse offer a fresh approach to life on two wheels. We want to open up the conversation on EV bikes so riders are fully informed about whether to make the switch from petrol or are simply curious about what electric motorcycling has to offer. We want to show them the potential benefits of Can-Am EV bikes, from lower running costs to an exciting new riding experience.”

The Can-Am Pulse comes with four different riding modes: Normal, ECO, Rain and Sport+, which riders can switch between depending on their location, personal preference and the weather. The Pulse also makes use of BRP’s Active ReGen system, providing riders with enhanced control and smoother deceleration.

Meanwhile, the Origin has six drive modes that adjust rider aids including throttle response, traction control, and ABS depending on the ride. Situated inside the six modes are two off-road modes that help the bike transition from road to off-road.
