Yamaha launches NMAX 155 Tech MAX scooter
The new Yamaha NMAX 155 Tech MAX sport scooter brings extra performance, new riding modes, and more to the table as part of its 2026 update.

Yamaha has launched its all-new NMAX 155 Tech MAX sport scooter, which takes over from its smaller 125cc sibling as the most powerful model with the NMAX name.
The scooter gains extra performance thanks to its 155cc engine, while also benefiting from the Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission (YECVT) technology, which allows the rider to choose between two riding modes. Yamaha says “this special technology delivers a new kind of Sport Scooter ride that is comparable to a geared motorcycle.”
The two modes that riders can toggle between are Sport and Town, and depending on which you select, it will change the character of the engine. In Sport mode the transmission ratio is significantly reduced, meaning the rpm is higher and provides faster acceleration, while in Town mode the rpm is lower, therefore offering a more relaxed ride.

The two different modes can be selected using the left side switchgear, and the machine will switch back on in the same mode that it was turned off in.
The scooter’s 155cc engine meets the latest Euro5+ standards and has been developed using Yamaha’s Blue Core technology, which is aimed at achieving minimal fuel consumption while reducing emissions.
As part of the scooter’s advanced specification, it features Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, as well as a newly designed crankshaft, crankcases, air cleaner, exhaust, and oil pump. A new hydraulic cam chain tensioner has also been fitted to help reduce friction.

Additionally, the NMAX 155 gets a Start & Stop system which turns the engine off when you come to a standstill. The engine kicks back into life automatically when the brakes are released and the throttle is twisted.
Another new piece to the puzzle with the sport scooter is its ‘Downshift’ function, which provides stronger acceleration when the rider presses the shift button or opens the throttle rapidly. Finally, the new Downshift feature can also be used to increase engine braking when decelerating.
The NMAX 155 comprises a new leather-like seat with gold coloured stitching, while riders also get a full colour 4.2-inch TFT display featuring Garmin Navigation. The Garmin Navigation is available free of charge with the new scooter, but Yamaha says the system is not available in all countries, currently.

13-inch aluminium wheels have been fitted to the NMAX 155, and they are housed inside a 110/70-13 front and 130/70-13 rear tyre. 230mm front and rear brake discs get ABS treatment, while the telescopic front forks offer 100mm of travel. At the rear is a twin shock that provides 91mm of travel.
The new scooter is available in two colourways which include Midnight Black and Crystal Graphite, while availability will be some time during the first quarter of 2026. Yamaha says pricing details can be found by contacting your local dealer.
