TVS Motor Company has entered the adventure touring market with the launch of the all-new Apache RTX 300. It’s the first bike built on the brand’s new RT-XD4 engine platform, signalling TVS’s intent to expand beyond the sporty street segment the Apache range is known for.

At the heart of the new RTX is a 299cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder DOHC engine, producing 35 bhp at 9,000rpm and 21 lb ft at 7,000rpm. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox, assist and slipper clutch, and bi-directional quickshifter. Power goes through a ride-by-wire throttle system, and riders can toggle between four modes – Urban, Rain, Tour, and Rally – adjusting throttle response, traction control, and ABS to suit conditions.

The RTX sits on a steel trellis frame with WP suspension at both ends, featuring long travel for off-road control and comfort. There’s an inverted front fork and a mono-shock rear with a floating piston design to improve damping consistency. TVS says the setup aims to balance stability on the road with confidence off it.

The rally-inspired ergonomics include a relatively low seat height for better reach, a wide handlebar, and an upright riding position that should suit long rides or light off-roading. Riders can easily transition between seated and standing positions, and the design appears geared toward comfort with a pillion or luggage on board.

On the tech front, the bike features a 5-inch TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity and map mirroring, as well as cruise control, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The TFT display offers turn-by-turn navigation and customisable ride information.

Lighting is handled by a Class-D headlamp with DRLs, and the rear gets a distinctive twin-blade taillight. The bike’s styling takes cues from rally machines, with a forward-leaning, single-volume design that merges the tank and headlamp for a cohesive look.

TVS is also offering a range of touring accessories, including bash plates, handguards, panniers and top box mounts, and protection kits. The company has partnered with GIVI for luggage solutions, offering both side panniers and a top box with quick-release fittings.

Underneath the marketing speak, the new RT-XD4 platform is TVS’s most advanced single yet. It features dual overhead cams, twin oil pumps, dual cooling jackets, and a dual breather system to keep performance consistent over long rides. The engine is also compatible with ethanol-blended fuel and is designed for improved reliability and lower emissions.

Visually, the RTX will be offered in five colour options – Viper Green, Metallic Blue, Pearl White, Lightning Black, and Tarn Bronze – all accented by TVS’s signature Apache Red highlights and powder-coated white frames.

The TVS Apache RTX 300 looks set to take on rivals like the BMW G 310 GS, KTM 390 Adventure, and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. At its expected price point, it could become one of the most affordable liquid-cooled adventure bikes in India, and if that price translates to the UK and Europe, it could be a very compelling option.

Whether the new RTX has the real-world refinement and durability to match its spec sheet remains to be seen, but it’s clear TVS wants to make its mark in the growing small-capacity adventure space – and this could be just the bike to do it.
