Pol Tarres at Erzbergrodeo on Yamaha Tenere 700

WATCH in awe as motorcycling legend Pol Tarres takes on the Erzbergrodeo onboard a Yamaha Tenere 700 and keeps a field of more focused enduro bikes very honest indeed!

Adventure motorcycles are getting better every year, and if you needed proof, the recent trend of motorcycle makers entering their ADV bikes in some of the toughest off-road events on earth. Harley-Davidson recently entered a Pan America 1250 Special in the 1,000 Dunas, along with Triumph and its Tiger 900 Rally Pro at the same event. Even just last week we reported on Ducati and its excellent DesertX in the Erzbergrodeo hard enduro event finishing the Iron Road Prologue at the hands of Antoine Meo.

What we haven’t seen, until today at least, is an adventure bike taking on a field of much more focused and lighter enduro-style machines.

The frankly stunning video shows Tarres pummeling the field (and nearly an official) from the start line, creating his own line over obstacles and playing with the Yamaha like he’s having an afternoon ramble down his favourite green lane. This isn’t a green lane though, it’s the Erzbergrodeo, widely regarded as the hardest of all the ‘hard’ enduros. And that is something that Pol is reminded of not too long into the video when he comes a cropper on one of the rockier sections of the course. It may slow him down for a second, but once he’s re-mounted and back on his way, Tarres immediately gets back to the business of going fast, very fast.

Tarres managed an extremely credible finish in the event, crossing the line 131st out of around 500 riders. That’s no mean feat for a bike that was originally designed as a dual sport machine, taking on a field of race bikes!
