KTM AMT Challenge test ride event begins
KTM is asking riders to take part in the AMT Challenge, giving you the chance to try out its automated manual transmission for yourself.
KTM is challenging riders to try out its new gearbox system, with a nationwide test ride campaign for its AMT-equipped 1390 Super Adventure S EVO beginning this month.
The ‘Take The AMT Challenge’ event runs from 7 September to 11 October 2026 at KTM dealerships across the UK, giving riders the chance to try the company's Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) system for themselves.
Automatic and semi-automatic motorcycles remain a divisive subject among riders, particularly those who see changing gear as an important part of the riding experience. KTM's response to those riders is to get in the saddle and test one before deciding whether you like it or not.
The bike being used for the campaign is the KTM 1390 Super Adventure S EVO, the Austrian firm's flagship road-focused adventure bike. It uses KTM's AMT system, which allows the rider to select automatic operation or change gear manually without a conventional clutch lever.
The system is designed to take care of gear changes when required, while still allowing the rider to intervene when they want to.
That means the 1390 Super Adventure S EVO can be ridden without manually operating a conventional clutch, but riders aren't locked into a fully automatic riding experience if they don’t want it.
KTM says the campaign is intended to allow riders to form an opinion based on experience rather than assumptions or online debate.
Riders need to arrange a test ride on the 1390 Super Adventure S EVO through their local authorised KTM dealer.
Those who complete the test ride will also receive an 'I Took The AMT Challenge' commemorative mug.
The campaign runs until 11 October, so there is plenty of time for riders to find out whether KTM's take on an automatic motorcycle changes their mind.
