Japan-spec Honda RC213V-S makes 70hp

That’s 3hp less than Yamaha’s MT-07

THE Honda RC213V-Sclaimed 159hp may seem modest compared to some litre superbikes but it’s a lot more than is on offer in Japan.

We revealed two weeks ago that the US-spec RC213V-S makes 101hp – less than the US market CBR600RR – and now it turns out the Japanese version makes even less, at 70hp.

The figure is revealed on the Japanese-language section of a dedicated RC213V-S website.

The road-going RCV, based on Honda’s championship MotoGP bike, is due to go on sale in limited numbers from July 13. It's expected to cost around £137,000. The race kit of parts is another £12,000!

Bikes with more power than the 999cc V-four include the 689cc parallel-twin MT-07, with 73hp according to Yamaha’s Japanese website.

Unlike the US-spec machine, the Japanese version of the RC213V-S is at least offered with the optional track-only kit, boosting power to 215hp, reducing weight, and increasing the noise!
