Indian Motorcycle restructures Iowa facility with a view to long-term growth
Indian Motorcycle has strengthened its US manufacturing operations through a series of moves at its Iowa facility.

The American motorcycle maker Indian has confirmed a major restructuring to aid its transition into becoming a stand-alone company.
The restructuring has taken place at Indian Motorcycle’s headquarters in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and is designed to increase long-term efficiency and profitability as part of the marque’s ongoing move away from Polaris’ ownership.
In order to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities, Indian Motorcycle has added numerous dedicated business functions, as well as more manufacturing jobs.
The move is part of a wider plan to reinforce Indian Motorcycle’s commitment to manufacturing its motorcycles in the United States.

Indian Motorcycle, which has been celebrating its 125th year anniversary throughout 2026, says it is also “filling essential finance, corporate administration, and other positions that were previously handled by Polaris employees through the initial stages of its multi-faceted transition process”.
Indian makes moves to “detangle the business from Polaris”
In addition to the restructuring, Indian Motorcycle has also removed positions across several business areas as part of its efforts to “detangle the business from Polaris”
This includes reducing operational measures adopted by Polaris, while also aligning its organisational needs to that of an independent motorcycle business.
Speaking about the changes, Indian Motorcycle CEO, Mike Kennedy, said:

“As we stated when we assumed control of the business in February, we are committed to strengthening this business for long-term success with American manufacturing at its foundation.
“Expanding manufacturing capabilities and jobs in Spirit Lake and building a team dedicated to the needs of this business are critical aspects of our long-term plan. That said, we are also making some difficult organizational decisions that are reducing some positions. While we recognize the challenges that presents to the individuals impacted, it remains necessary to establish a more efficient operation that can support sustained profitability and future growth.”
Since February, Indian Motorcycle has identified key areas where staff overlap was taking place alongside other structural inefficiencies. Approximately 70 positions have been eliminated as part of the process across various divisions within the company.
