Patent images surfaced in China earlier this week, that showed a new bike that was eerily similar to Italjet's Dragster 700 super scooter. Indeed, many outlets, us included, reported on the potential outcome being a 'rebadged' Dragster 700 from QJ.

That's not quite what is happening. QJ is going to be building Dragster 700 models, although only for the Chinese market, with Italjet retaining the ownership of the Dragster 700 name, branding, and related IP. The bikes that QJ builds for the Chinese market will still be badged and branded as Italjets.

Indeed, the Dragster 700s heading to China will be sold via specialised dealers, which will be selected by QJ. The final pricing and availability of units is as yet unknown.

For those that don’t know, Italjet made big waves at EICMA a couple of years ago, with the announcement of a new super-scooter boasting a 700cc engine, manual gears, 70bhp and top-spec chassis hardware from Ohlins and Brembo. With its hyper-aggressive styling and eye-catching spec sheet, the new bike rightly hit the headlines across the world.

The spec sheet (and design!) of the bike is all very similar to that of the Italjet currently in production in Europe. The QJ bike arrives with 75bhp, a kerb weight of 205kg, a top speed of around 120mph and a hand-operated clutch and manual gearbox.
