Next gen’ 2027 BMW S1000 RR spotted track testing – Concept RR breaks cover
Just a few days on from the Concept RR being published in trademark filings, it seems like the actual 2027 BMW S1000 RR has been spotted undergoing track testing.
A prototype for the next-generation S1000 RR has been spotted at the Nurburgring, just days after the Concept RR was immortalised in patent images in India.
The bike, from the look of it at least, seems to be full production-ready, with the lights, switchgear, and TFT dash all looking like they are ready for the showroom floor.
One big departure for the model is the lack of a Multi-Function Controller (AKA ‘wonder wheel’) on the left handlebar. The majority of BMW’s sports, touring and adventure models have featured the system, which was first introduced in 2013. Instead of the wheel, the bike spotted at the Nurburgring uses a more conventional four-way joystick, which is joined by various mode and parameter adjustment buttons.
Another significant change is the frame, which seems to be an all-new design when compared to the latest generation S1000 RR. The sub-frame, for starters, mounts to the main frame in a completely different way on the bike shown in the images, as do the rider footpegs.
The styling of the bike is much closer to that of the existing S1000 RR than it is to the Concept RR we saw at Villa d'Este in 2025. The headlights are larger and more conventional, and the fairing-mounted aerodynamic winglets now feature upper and lower wing endplates.
The Bike’s chassis still features Marzocchi suspension, at the front at least – so we’ll assume it’s the same at the rear, although there is a change to the braking system. The bike shown in the images looks to be running Brembo range-topping Hypure calipers at the front of the bike, the very same hardware found on bikes like the Panigale V4, Norton Manx R and Honda CBR1000RR-R.
What the new images don’t tell us is when the new S1000 will be making its first proper public bow. We’d assume that as the bike looks pretty much ready to go, a presentation could be set to take place at EICMA this November.
