Indian Motorcycle reveals trio of 125th anniversary Scout Bobber, Chief Vintage, and Challenger

Do you like the Indian Scout Bobber, Chief Vintage, or Challenger, but wish they were more sparkly? We’ve got good news.

Indian Motorcycle has pulled the cover off three limited-edition models aimed at celebrating the brand’s 125th anniversary. Bedecked in sparkly paint and unique touches, the trio is accompanied by a line of apparel.

“One hundred and twenty-five years is a historic milestone and a true testament to the riders whose passion for the brand kept the spirit of Indian Motorcycle alive and remains our driving force to this day,” a media release quotes Nate Secor, Indian Motorcycle Marketing Director, as saying. “As we celebrate our anniversary, this special-edition collection of motorcycles and apparel reflects our pride as an iconic American brand and our unyielding commitment to craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and class-leading performance.”

There are actually four models in the 125th Anniversary Collection, but because the air-cooled Roadmaster touring behemoth is no longer sold in Europe, its fancy version won’t be sold here, either. Available to those with wallets quick enough to purchase them will be versions of the Scout Bobber, Chief Vintage, and Challenger.

“Each model… is meticulously hand-painted, reflecting an exceptional level of craftsmanship and attention to detail,” says Indian Motorcycle. “A 125th Anniversary Red with Black Crystal paint scheme delivers a one-of-a-kind aesthetic that celebrates the rich history of Indian Motorcycle. Base paint begins with the iconic Indian Motorcycle Red and is then enhanced with metallic micro-flakes that create a richer, more dynamic aesthetic, giving the lineup a distinctive presence unlike anything in Indian Motorcycle’s lineup.”

The models also have unique pinstriping, the words “ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY” in so-called ghosted text, and unique serial numbers to indicate their exclusivity.

Mechanically and technologically, the bikes are identical to their standard versions. Well, except in the case of the anniversary Scout Bobber, which is more powerful than the standard Scout Bobber.

I got a chance to see these models in person recently when I attended the European launch of the Chief Vintage. I can confirm that they are very, very pretty things. Here’s a breakdown of the models, their prices, and their availability:

Scout Bobber 125th Anniversary Edition

Priced at £16,655, the Scout Bobber 125th Anniversary Edition costs £3,400 more than the standard Scout Bobber, but vindicates its price in housing the 1250cc liquid-cooled SpeedPlus engine that drives the Scout 101 (which has a starting price of £16,155). The tune of the engine in Scout 101 form delivers a claimed 109.4 bhp and 80.4 lb-ft of torque - a notable jump from the standard Scout Bobber’s figures

You also get “exclusive badging and a custom 125th anniversary stitched seat.” Just 450 units are available worldwide.

Chief Vintage 125th Anniversary Edition

Costing £3,900 more than the starting price of the standard Chief Vintage, the Chief Vintage 125th Anniversary Edition gets the anniversary badging and stitched seat treatment, as well as “polished driver floorboards.” In all other ways it is the (very enjoyable) Chief Vintage that I rode in Spain a few weeks ago.

To each their own, but I personally think that the sparkle-bling paint scheme doesn’t quite make sense on this particular model, since the goal of the Chief Vintage is to evoke the spirit of bikes from the 1940s and ‘50s. Feel free to disagree. Just 250 examples will be available worldwide.

Indian Challenger 125th Anniversary Edition

The standard Challenger is not available in the UK for reasons. But this beautified take on the bagger platform costs a stunning £9,900 more than the already-blinged Challenger Dark Horse - the most ‘affordable’ version of the bike you can buy here.

Powered by Indian’s somewhat underrated liquid-cooled PowerPlus 112 V-twin engine Challenger 125th Anniversary Edition gets special badging and seats. Numbers are limited to 250 globally.

“This lineup represents the highest level of craftsmanship we’ve ever achieved,” says Ola Stenegärd, Design Director for Indian Motorcycle. “The design of the 125th Anniversary Collection pays tribute to the legacy that built Indian Motorcycle, making every model not just a machine, but a lasting symbol of our history and our commitment to American craftsmanship.”

As you would expect, Indian Motorcycle has also released a line of apparel which includes a leather jacket, varsity jacket, crewneck sweatshirt, men’s and women’s T-shirts, a baseball cap, and limited-edition shirt by DIXXON.

“Showcasing the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, each piece incorporates signature detailing both inside and out, with special-edition 125th graphics appearing as prints, embroidery, patches, and appliques,” according to a media release.

A quick word to the wise about sizing from someone who has blagged a handful of branded T-shirts over the years: Indian Motorcycle, unsurprisingly, uses American sizings. That means a T-shirt or jacket labeled as Medium would be a Large in UK sizes, and so on.
