New grinder-resistant Hiplok MD1000 and MDX disc locks launched
Hiplok steps up the fight against bike theft with two new compact disc locks — one of which uses anti-grinder technology.

Hiplok has added two new disc locks to its motorcycle security lineup — the MD1000 and the MDX — with one of them promising something we’ve never seen in a compact lock before: resistance to angle grinder attacks.
According to Hiplok Co-Founder Ben Smith, the brand wanted to deliver the “highest level of motorcycle security in a compact, portable format,” while keeping things practical for everyday riders. The result is two locks that look similar but sit at opposite ends of the security spectrum. One is built with Hiplok’s anti-grinder tech, the other with traditional hardened steel.
Hiplok MD1000: Anti-grinder protection in a pocket-sized lock

If you’ve seen Hiplok’s D1000 or AX1000 before, you’ll already know the brand’s party trick — a special composite material that shrugs off angle grinder discs like a brick wall shrugs off polite conversation. That same technology has now been squeezed into a disc lock for the first time.
The MD1000 weighs just 1kg and measures 105mm x 82mm x 35mm, meaning it’s small enough to stash in a backpack or tail pack, but burly enough to put up a serious fight. It’s Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond and ART 4* rated, meaning it’s tested and certified to withstand some fairly creative forms of attack.
Inside, you’ll find an anti-pick, anti-drill locking cylinder, and in the box comes a durable carry case, three keys, and a pair of clever magnetic reminder tags - designed to stick to your throttle or mirror so you don’t embarrass yourself by trying to ride off with the lock still attached.
You can have the MD1000 in black or neon yellow, and if you already own Hiplok’s DX1000 D-lock, you can order them keyed alike, meaning one key, two locks, and a lot less faff.
The MD1000 joins Hiplok’s 1000 Series, a line-up that includes the D1000, DX1000, AX1000, and A1000. All are built around the same anti-grinder technology aimed squarely at the power-tool-wielding end of the theft problem.
Hiplok MDX: Everyday security at a friendlier price

Sitting just below the MD1000 is the new Hiplok MDX, which shares the same compact dimensions and lock mechanism but swaps the fancy composite shell for hardened steel. That makes it a bit more traditional — and a lot more affordable.
The MDX still carries Sold Secure Powered Cycle Gold and ART 4* ratings, so while it won’t laugh in the face of an angle grinder, it’s still a serious deterrent for day-to-day parking. It’s finished in black and includes Hiplok’s magnetic reminder tag, too.
With bike theft showing no signs of slowing down, and thieves increasingly reaching for battery-powered grinders, Hiplok’s move to make anti-grinder protection more portable feels like a logical next step.
The MD1000 brings that technology to a format that’s actually convenient to carry, while the MDX keeps things simple for riders who just want solid protection without the extra cost.
Both locks are available now through Hiplok’s website and dealers; the MD1000 has an RRP of £179.99, while the MDX has an RRP of £89.99.
