If you struggle to find CE motorcycle clothing for your kids, we have an answer!
A rare slice of proper protection for young riders, Duchinni’s Detroit jacket proves kids’ bike gear doesn’t have to be make-believe.

If you’ve ever tried to kit out a young rider (or pillion) properly, you’ll know the pain. Adult gear? Too big. Toy gear? Too flimsy. The reality is that proper, certified protective kit for kids is still painfully scarce, which is why the new Duchinni Youth Detroit leather jacket is a bit of a godsend.
And as a bonus, it arrives just in time for Christmas.
Grown-up protection for smaller riders
Duchinni hasn’t taken the “shrink it and pink it” approach. The Detroit jacket is built to the same safety standards as adult kit, carrying full EN17092-3:2020 AA certification and coming equipped with a full suite of CE-approved armour:
- Level 2 shoulders
- Level 2 elbows
- Level 1 back protector
It’s real cowhide, with a distressed finish that could have been lifted straight from a café racer in 1965. In terms of style and protection, it’s a world away from novelty motocross jerseys and fashion jackets that often get passed off as “riding gear” for kids.
Built to grow as they do

Kids grow fast. Kit doesn’t. Duchinni has at least acknowledged that reality: the Detroit comes with a 3cm zipped sleeve extension, allowing it to stretch through growth spurts rather than go straight to eBay after six months.
There’s also an adjustable waist belt, zipped cuffs, and a Neoprene-trimmed collar with popper closure – all making it feel more like properly tailored riding gear, rather than a scaled-down adult jacket.
Inside, you get a textile mesh lining to keep it breathable, plus a removable 75gsm quilted gilet for colder months. In short: wear it all year, on or off the bike.
Practicality hasn’t been ignored either. The Detroit features:
- Two hand-warmer pockets
- Two zipped chest pockets
- Subtle Duchinni branding
- Vintage-style YKK zips
- Padded panels on the shoulders and arms
It’s basically the kind of jacket most adult riders would happily wear – except this one comes in sizes XS to XL, which, according to Duchinni, has the ages 6 to 14 roughly covered.
Motorcycle safety education often starts early – but the kit available for kids rarely keeps up. When young riders are heading out on e-bikes, 50cc scooters or riding pillion with mum or dad, they deserve the same level of protection as the grown-ups. The Detroit proves it can be done – and for £179.99, it’s not wildly priced either.
More options on the Duchinni website

And it’s not just a one-off from Duchhinni with the Detroit, as there is a full and thorough range of riding kit for young bike fans over on the official website. It covers everything from technical textiles, riding shirts, jeans, boots and even gloves, all boasting the same protection and CE approval where appropriate.
