Surrey-based hearing protection experts Auritech and the Bike Shed Motorcycle Club in London have joined forces and will be giving away 100 free sets of earplugs to UK bikers next month.

The new partnership aims to raise awareness during Tinnitus Week 2026, which takes place from 2–9 February. Tinnitus is a condition that causes persistent ringing, buzzing or hissing in the ears, and there is currently no cure for it, although it is preventable.

Data provided by Tinnitus UK shows that one in seven adults are currently being affected by tinnitus. The company says “noise becomes a risk to hearing health at levels of 80 decibels (dB) or above”.

For motorcyclists, noise levels can vary based on a few factors, including speed, engine noise, road noise and wind noise. According to Auritech, noise levels are generally between 85-95 dB when doing speeds of around 35mph. However, that climbs to 110-116 dB at around 65mph.

At these levels, it claims that “irreversible damage can occur to hearing in less than one minute”. This is one of the reasons why Auritech is encouraging riders to make earplugs a key addition to their riding kit.

The earplugs that Auritech is set to give away for free, are the Universal Biker Earplugs, which it says “offer superior protection compared to traditional foam, wax or silicone earplugs”.

To receive a free set of earplugs, members of the Bike Shed community will simply need to show staff their membership card in store. The first 100 members to do so will receive the earplugs there and then, and it must be done during the week of the 2–9 February.

Wendy Faulkner, Director at Auritech, said this about the new partnership:

“We are delighted to be teaming up with the Bike Shed this Tinnitus Week. Tinnitus is a common condition especially among motorcyclists, so having the backing of a brand as big in the industry as the Bike Shed is fantastic to help spread the message of why wearing hearing protection is vital. It’s overlooked far too often for a variety of reasons, but we want to kickstart that behaviour shift and show that protecting your hearing doesn’t dull the riding or pillion experience, it elevates and preserves it.”

Gareth Charlton, Global Brand Director at Bike Shed Moto Co., also spoke about the new initiative, saying:

“The things you love the most always hurt you the most! But riding your pride and joy shouldn’t put your ears at risk. Auritech earplugs have been a stalwart in our shop for many years and join many of us on a ride. Huge thanks to the Auritech team for kitting out our membership with their ‘plugs for many miles to come.”
