Overall Review

A really excellent bike, flexible, torquey and ideal as an all rounder. Luggage not as good as that for the GS but it is more fun, and handles way better on the roads. Much easier for shorter riders too. Seems to have been a little overlooked, but I rather like the exclusivity compared to the ubiquitous GS

Strengths

Having had my R1200GS stolen, I was glad that BMW decided to produce a slightly sportier tourer than the RT never really having been a fan. It fills the role of commuter, b road blaster, and long distance tourer very well. I have always been a boxer fan, and the water cooled lump is a big step up from it's air cooled predecessors offering a good mix of power and torque. It won't offer the thrills of higher revving engines, but for day to day riding it has few peers. The optional (very expensive) Akrapovic can makes a wonderful sound so recommend it.

Weaknesses

The info on the various displays is not intuitive nor very clear. Preferred the GS layout. Also whilst the shift assist works well changing up, this is the first version that you can use for down changes as well- it doesn't really work, I much prefer using the clutch as it gives more control. Finally the BMW luggage is a bit flimsy and the top box only just big enough.

Overall Review

Do everything bike (except off-road).

Strengths

Torque, handling, economy (50mpg+), comfort.

Weaknesses

Price (when you add all the bells & whistles). Could do with a bigger petrol tank.
