Looks, style and torquey engine.
Handling is a bit soft.
The grandfather of the retro scene is back (with a new hip replacement). It's sharper and stronger than before without losing any character

Overall Review

Great bike, I ride it 5 klms each way to work daily , tour at the weekends & next year am going to do a lap of Oz, which will be 15,000 klms.

Strengths

Loverly torquey engine, looks like a real bike, comfy both seats, good range of accessories available because its such a long running model.

Weaknesses

Rocker gaskets leak, clutch seals go, rear reflector is only held on by 1 rivet & therefore rattles. ( I have had 2 of them 96 & 2006 models, & all these minor niggles happend to both of them, shame on Yamaha for having the same problems 10 years later).

Overall Review

but it's a doddle in fact,. Great fuelling, good seat height for shorter legs and manageable particularly compared to Pan. I'm not a good technical rider so never really experienced the often touted handling problems. I go round corners like a field mouse and explode in the straights. that'll do me for now....Probably the only thing in the world, IMO, that looks half decent in Yellow -it's all Kenny Roberts style. It feels incredibly solid, good riding position (too old for bent wrists), good seat, looks like a mother-raper and goes like stink. Four carbs, four pipes - proper old school seventies look. Dual exhaust version looks bang on. Doesn't get banged around in wind like Pan does. 5 stars....

Strengths

This bike goes like a bloody bomb. It's like being strapped to a solid fuel booster rocket. The torque is incredible and it just surges forward. Even with luggage and 'er indoors it still tears along. I have bought it (2003 model) ten months ago and if I had to sell four out of the five bikes I have (admittedly one is a Di Blasi..!!) I would keep the XJR. Whilst the Pan ST1100 i have is a fabulous bit of kit, incredibly practical, comfortable, economical and more than fast enough and awesome on motorway it just isn't as fun as the XJR. I thought XJR was a mare in town - cont overall.

Weaknesses

Would love a sixth gear.... Keep trying to get into it but that's only because the fuelling from low revs is good that you can get into fifth so low in the rev range and at such low speeds. I bought the Pan after the XJR and although the figures aren't so different the feel is. Feels like a 250 in comparison to the XJR and the Pan is no slouch.. XJR does it all with the minimum of fuss and racket unlike those pointlessly noisy sports bikes and totally pointless Hardlys. Silent and deadly.

Overall Review

There is no reason to dislike this bike. My previous was a Vmax and this feels just as awesome but more confidence-inducing

Strengths

-Handles well -Not a tiny bike! There are TOO many bikes I could fit under my finger. -PLENTY of punch -Looks the balls. I've been laid approx. 50 times since I got this bike yesterday.

Weaknesses

Fuel consumption is average. For a £15-£20 fill I get 100-150 miles depending on driving.

Overall Review

If a bike is fast, it's comfort is compromised. If it's stylish, its handling is compromised. This bike ticks all the boxes!

Strengths

It ticks all boxes! Sexy, fast, big, loud, handles. What's not to like?

Weaknesses

None from me.

Overall Review

Great value big tourer with comfortable seat, likes fuel and the finish could be better.

Strengths

The engine is this bikes best attribute, its so powerfull and relaxed once its in top gear you can forget the gearbox. The seats a really comfortable place to be as well,i preferd the old twin pipe version as it looked better balanced.

Weaknesses

The latest paint jobs are boring and the single pipe does not look as good.Finish could be better and its no sports bike when pressing on.

Overall Review

I can't fault the bike. Everything works great and as it should. And it does them all well. But, there's nothing amazing about it. It's not the fastest, it's not the best-handling, it doesn't look the best, it's not the most reliable. It just does everything well, but nothing incredibly well. A solid choice, but not if you just want to brag about having the best for specification "X"

Strengths

Definitely fast enough. Nothing wrong with it. Handles well. Brakes well. Looking f*cking awesomely baddass.

Weaknesses

Yamaha have sh*t customer service. "West London Yamaha" gave me a 2010 bike with 2012 plates without telling me, and Yamaha customer service basically told me that the dealer "would have made it clear".. I think I'd rather the suspension be harder but it's totally adjustable. Nothing "Special" about it. It's just 8/10 in every category.

Overall Review

Still a mother of all naked-bikes. Big engine with lots of grunt and torque anywhere in the revs. Stock seat should be changed if doing many long distance two-up riding. R1 brakes are excellent and Ohlins suspension is up to the job, though front fork could be stiffer. Perfect bike for city bruising, showing off at the pubs and doing miles.

Strengths

big engine with lots of torque at any revs. Spaciuos for two-up riding and touring. Beautiful and sexy looking.

Weaknesses

Minor electrical and mechanical faults. Fuel gauge is very aproximate. Drinks fuel like it's free when pushed hard.

Overall Review

Had a black 2000 model. Added a Givi screen which made a huge difference to comfort at 90 plus mph. The engine was like a nuclear power plant! Handling was ok for its type but not the best. Comfort was nice but hard on the neck prior to screen addition. Brakes were typical Yamaha excellent. She was a bit thirsty - not terrible - but my mates Triumph triple filled up again for several quid less which monked me off. I ended up spending a bout 50 quid more on a european trip. Very nice bike though.

Strengths

Creamy smooth power delivery. Grunt everywhere. Handsome retro look.

Weaknesses

Fuel economy was always way down on my mates.

Overall Review

Fantastic. Ticks every box and is perfect at anything you throw at it 10/10

Strengths

Absolutely brilliant motor, will pull in every gear no probs. Brakes will pull yer face off and handles perfectly for a bike of its size

Weaknesses

Really could do with a 6 speed box, constantly trying to go up a gear. Drinks like a fish when you open the taps but hey its a carb'd 1300cc engine
