Looks aggressive, but that's about it.
Lacks power, too heavy, a bit dull

Overall Review

I test road bike in Dec 2007 and I was impressed with bike but the 15 litre fuel tank put me off. The range should be 160 miles plus not upto 160 with fingers crossed. I only had a 20-30 min test ride.

Strengths

ENGINE

Weaknesses

Fuel tank size, 15 litre is not enough. I would have liked 20 litres

Good as a 2nd or 3rd bike, would have been better with a shaft drive. Mines is bright yellow/ yamaha / roberts speedblock - so stands out a wee bit.

Strengths

Looks (not to everyones taste) noise (with Rassk end cans) she likes the vibrations

Weaknesses

Crap tank range, sliddy pillion seat, nightmare to clean, chain stretches very quickly, expensive for aftermarket kit

Overall Review

it´s a bit of an odd package. it´s bloody good fun to ride, and on short runs between close sets of traffic lights will smoke most sports bikes due to the loony torque level. it does most things well, but none of them brilliantly having said that, if i had the cash, there would be one parked in my garage next to my XV16 i like it

Strengths

the engine is bloody great! they took the XV 17 warrior lump and stuffed a bit more go into it. works well in the shorter, lighter package. it´s big, so for those of us who are tall but like bikes with rearsets but don´t like getting crippled, it´s great. lots of space for the lankys around town it will piss over ALL the traffic without exception. lots of torque and very slim makes it a good city tool. out in the a-roads it handles well and brakes well

Weaknesses

as seems to be the norm now with yamahas big twins, the styling is `love it or hate it´. personally, i love it. the OEM tyres ain´t that good. stickier rubber needed. chain drive? why? yamaha has narrow belts in production, and would have meant less power loss in transmission and lower maintainence. and the biggest gripe - the akrapovic exhaust for this is only available through yamaha, and costs nearly a grand. sorry, but that´s taking the piss overall price - it´s expensive for what you get

Okay, so this bike ain't for kids, so that means I've done my bit with the two strokes, FZ's, FZR's, and finally YZF's. But there comes a point in life when you start to think, 'geez, I'm so sick of looking like everyone else', to the point where you cringe when the (accountant by day) Rossi wannabe's of this world with there unmarked knee-sliders nod at you, because you know you've finally pigeon-holed yourself... Well, not anymore! With effortless gulps of raw power that’s unavailable in such a package from ANYTHING else on the planet, all I can say is: 'thank-you god that I'm alive, at the age I am, and at this point in motorcycle evolution. You show me something that weighs a 1/4 of a metric ton that handles better than this and I'll show you a liar! If you don't understand, you're either too young... or you simply never will.

Strengths

You will look at me, I am intimidating (Akro's), and to finish you off... you will feel so ordinary aside your common crotch rocket.

Weaknesses

If only they cut back on the plastic, but genuine aftermarket components do remedy this.

Overall Review

A fantastic bike that i had for three months, and i really didn't want to give her back, haven't seen many here in the uk.

Strengths

Tremendous pose value, i had one delivered to my door the day after my '91 ZZ-R600 was knocked over (but ok now) Rode her for three months amazing bike!! comfortable hour after hour.

Weaknesses

small fuel tank yes twenty litres would be realistic, also not for novices or anyone less than six foot as seat is higher than average.

Overall Review

Style and character over speed and handling.

Strengths

Great noise, torque infested effortless engine , very good looking, great character

Weaknesses

Drags its arse like a dog with worms, lack of feedback, slight disjointed feel . The front wants to handle like a sports bike with too much weight on it , the back handles like a chopper with overinflated tyres....very odd

Overall Review

This bike is quite rare here in Canada, very few were sold and now it is no longer imported - it was never sold in the U.S. so it does attract lots of attention. Great fun pissing off the Harley boat anchors!

Strengths

excellent fit & finish; outstanding brakes; handles well for its size; great thumping v-twin

Weaknesses

Yamaha overpriced this bike here in Canada - $17,000CAD; suspension harsh until you take the time to dial it in; virtually zero storage space underseat; that's about it really
