Overall Review

fantastic, loving every minute

Strengths

Quick, good looking and extremely smooth fuelling, very nimble for its size, good at slow speeds, picks up well.

Weaknesses

Noisy clutch from cold (Kawasaki have a fix for it now) Image - people read it 40 kgs heavier than the street triple, to be honest if your not a GP racer I doubt you'd notice in real life.

Overall Review

I'm really enjoying this bike, previous bikes were a Kymco Agility City 125, then an 04 Bandit K4 600 then this, so biking history is short, but after deciding on a new bike and riding as many as 20 new models in my quest, I came back to the Z800 every time. great brakes, great engine and in my opinion great looks, the bike still looks and rides like new. Image and weight is its biggest downfall, people are so obsessed with weight, and yes it does weigh 35kgs more than a street triple, but this doesn't feel apparent on the road, the weight helps with braking and road presence and the bike feels planted at all times. Running costs are good, insurance is cheap, but the cost of factory options seemed to have been plucked from an Apple catalogue pricing list for items that frankly aren't worth the money and are built like tin-foil. Some early Z800 suffered (along with the Z750r) from a noisy metallic sound from the clutch when started from cold, many dealers push this off a characteristic, but a clutch slip/noise isn't normal. there is a fix and it means Kawasaki have modified the clutch and replaced the shims which act as the spring, no noise and a free repair, if your bike is affected get it done now. Overall I'm looking forward to another year of ownership, I haven't seen a bike that would replace this just yet for me, but then again the Honda NM4 is in my mind! (I'm odd yes)

Strengths

Good power delivery, goes well from very cold mornings to hot days. Still loving the looks Headlight is great at night, very bright. Riding position is spot on, no cramp after long journeys. Seat, although initial complaints of being hard, really works well, put pressure on your muscles and doesn't induce fatigue. So much torque, you rarely have to rev the nuts off it to get the thing moving along nicely. Cheap insurance, paying £132 fully comp this year (new rider1 yr no claims, 36yr old garaged south east)

Weaknesses

Very poor fuel economy, I rarely get more than 34mpg on average, best I've ever seen was when I reset the trip and commuted via the motorway at 50mpg. RUST - bike mainly is rust free, but the exhaust shield seems to rust quickly where the front tyre kicks up stones, Kawasaki have resprayed this twice, but I can see signs of rust again! IMAGE - due to the perceived weight of the bike and the many Rossi's on the road people seem to bypass this and get the Street, seriously take a ride and comment back, when I compared both back to back I loved the z800 more, rode better and more refined.

Word of caution with the Kawasaki Z800, negative press and poor reviews have hit resale very hard, consider another brand if you want to keep your well earned money, don't buy new.

Strengths

Weaknesses

The image, of Kawasaki!! and that's a BIG problem for me.

Overall Review

Easy to ride because of it's jackal and hide personality.

Strengths

Great power when you need it. Also good for pillion because you hardly feel any loss of powerpower. Very stable and excellent breaking and handling. I was also pleasantly surprised how good it handled crosswinds at high speeds. With a good aftermarket screen you can do high speeds no problem. Throttle response is out of this world. I haven't had a lot of bikes but this one is definitely the best and I don't think I would ever want more out of a bike.

Weaknesses

Needs aftermarket seat that don't make you slide forward all the time.
