Triumph extends off-road winning run with fourth consecutive MX2 victory

Don’t look now, but Triumph is building something very special in the motocross world championship, after the Hinckley-based company secured its fourth MX2 event win in succession. 

The win was secured by Triumph Factory Racing rider Guillem Farres, who has been responsible for clinching all four of the British brand’s consecutive MX2 GP wins. The unbeaten streak began at round 10 of the campaign in Portugal, which was Farres’ second event win of the season, at the time.

But since then, Farres and his TF 250-X machine have largely been untouchable. After qualifying second at the South African round, Farres went on to win when it mattered, taking home a total of 50 points after winning both races.

The Spanish rider then replicated that feat by winning both races of the British MX2 GP event (round 12), taking home another top score of 50 points in the process.

That brings us to the most recent event in the Czech Republic, where Farres was beaten for the first time in a race since round nine of the season in Italy. Farres won the opening race of round 13, but was then bettered by Husqvarna rider Liam Everts in race two of the Czech event.

Despite missing out on an eighth consecutive race win, Farres still achieved the highest points total of any rider, giving him a fourth-straight event win overall. Prior to his dominant run that started in Portugal, Farres was attempting to chase down KTM rider Sacha Coenen in the standings. Farres has not only caught Coenen, but he now holds a 33 point lead over his title rival.

Speaking after his most recent event win, Farres said:

“I’m really happy to have taken my fourth Grand Prix victory in a row and scored more good points for the championship. In the second moto, my start was decent, although not my best, and I moved into second quite quickly. From there, I tried to match Liam Everts’ pace, but he was riding really well, so I settled for second and secured the overall victory. I’m happy with the weekend and already looking forward to the next round.”
