MotoGP star Jack Miller has walked away unscathed from a 100mph crash at the fearsome turn one at Phillip Island.

The home hero briefly topped the timing sheets during FP1, but just moments after setting the fastest time, the Australian was sent barrel-rolling through the gravel.

Miller lost control midway through the Doohan Corner, named after Australian MotoGP legend Mick Doohan.

Miller’s bike was heavily damaged in the crash, particularly the front end, where the fairing was completely detached.

Miller’s impressive lap time was still good enough for third in the session behind Marc Marquez and Raul Fernandez, however, the crash gave his mechanics a significant amount of work to do.

Phillip Island, which is set to be replaced by a new circuit in Adelaide in 2027, is known for being one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar.

Heavy winds often play a role throughout the weekend, and turn one is often a hotspot for crashes due to the changing conditions.

Miller was not the only rider who came away from FP1 with damage to his bike, as KTM’s Brad Binder fell victim to a spectacular engine failure.

Engine issues have been an ongoing problem for KTM for much of this season, and this was the latest example of that.

Coming down the start-finish straight, Binder’s KTM blew up in dramatic style, with huge puffs of smoke coming from the rear of his RC16.

The South African, who will join Miller on the WorldSBK grid in 2027, immediately pulled off the racing line before stopping off-track.
