Touratech launches motorcycle lowering kits for 200 adventure and road bikes

Touratech Suspension launches a range of lowering solutions, aimed at reducing seat height without the compromises often associated with aftermarket lowering links.

Touratech Suspension has launched a broad range of motorcycle lowering solutions aimed at riders who struggle with tall seat heights, offering what it says is a more complete answer than the usual aftermarket lowering links.

Available for around 200 different motorcycle models, the German firm’s range includes everything from replacement spring kits and shortened shock absorbers to fork cartridges, electronic ESA-compatible suspension parts and low-profile comfort seats. The focus is on reducing seat height without upsetting the bike’s handling, damping behaviour or geometry in the process.

That last point is key because while lowering links remain a popular and quick fix for dropping the perch on an adventure bike, they can alter suspension progression and steering characteristics if not matched properly to the rest of the chassis. Touratech’s approach instead works through the suspension itself, with revised springs, dampers and travel designed specifically around the reduced ride height.

Adventure bikes are a particular target for the system. Machines like the BMW F 850 GS, Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin, Yamaha Ténéré 700 and KTM 790 Adventure all offer long suspension travel and plenty of ground clearance, but they can also leave shorter riders tiptoeing at junctions or struggling when manoeuvring fully loaded bikes.

Touratech says its lowering systems are designed to improve rider confidence as much as accessibility.

“Having your feet firmly on the ground is essential for confident handling of the bike and therefore plays a key role in making riding enjoyable,” said Tilo Jentzsch, Portfolio Manager at Touratech.

The simplest option comes through replacement spring kits, with lowering amounts varying depending on the model. The BMW F 850 GS, for example, can be dropped by either 20mm or 40mm using progressively wound springs designed to retain comfort and load-carrying ability.

For riders wanting a more integrated setup, Touratech also offers shortened shock absorbers and fork cartridges. These systems are developed specifically around the reduced suspension travel, with revised damping characteristics and spring rates intended to preserve the bike’s original feel as closely as possible.

The Africa Twin is one example, with 25mm and 40mm lowering options available through dedicated shock absorber packages. Touratech’s replacement cartridges also retain adjustability for preload, rebound and compression damping despite the shorter travel.

BMW GS riders using ESA electronic suspension systems haven’t been forgotten either. Touratech has developed compatible electronic lowering shocks that continue to work with the factory adjustment systems while lowering the bike and adapting the spring and damping settings accordingly.

The final piece of the puzzle comes through lower comfort seats, which reduce padding thickness while using revised foam densities and reshaped contours to reduce the stepover and improve reach to the floor.
