British Superbike Championship title contender Rory Skinner is to make his Grand Prix World Championship debut at his home British MotoGP after being lined up by American Racing for a two-race stint.

The 20-year old is currently contesting his second season in BSB with the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki team but has already collected six podiums and is comfortably among the eight riders that will go forward to fight for the 2022 BSB Title Showdown.

They are results that haven’t gone unnoticed with Skinner catching the eye of American Racing boss Eitan Bitbul, who has duly offered him wild-card outings at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring on a third Kalex chassis alongside Cameron Beaubier and Sean Dylan Kelly.

“Rory Skinner will play two wild cards, one at Silverstone and the second in Austria.” Butbul told MotoGP.com TV coverage during FP1.

“We give him the opportunity to show his potential: it is never easy for those who come from outside, many teams are looking for riders already in the World Championship.

“But he can show what he’s worth, he’s a very talented driver and Silverstone will certainly be a good circuit to start with.”

Though Skinner has plied his most recent trade in BSB - also winning the 2020 British Supersport Championship with a dominant 10 wins from 12 races - he was previously considered one of the UK’s foremost grand prix hopes after a strong performance in the Red Bull Rookies Cup against rivals including current MotoGP rider Raul Fernandez and Moto2 title contender Ai Ogura.
