JORGE LORENZO has won the world championship, with Dani Pedrosa in second and Casey Stoner third.

The final weekend held few surprises in terms of final standings for the season, with Lorenzo's dramatic crash having no bearing on his already guaranteed win.

Alvaro Bautista was able to hold off the competition over the course of the season to seal a well-contested fifth place. 7 time champion Valentino Rossi finished sixth overall, as the final curtain fell on a relatively difficult period at Ducati.
