THE 2021 British Superbike calendar has just been given something of an eleventh hour update, as changes are made that should allow more spectators to attend events.

The changes see the start of the season pushed back until June 25th, still remaining at the Oulton Park circuit – around a month later than the originally planned start date of May 29th.

BSB organisers have been locked in talks with the Department for Digital Media, Culture, Media & Sport over the changes, as it looked to clarify the PM’s roadmap out of restrictions. Crash.net reports that the meetings were centered around the capacity limits allowed into venues during Step 3 – March 17th, June 20th.

An official statement from BSB organisers stated:

‘With no further information available, and the need to offer certainty to fans, series partners, and stakeholders, the calendar has been updated and all events will now take place beyond 21 June – the date which provisionally marks the easing of spectator restrictions at large elite sporting events.’

Other events given the heave-ho are Thruxton and Snetterton, with Thruxton now hosting round four (30th June to 1st August), and Snetterton hosting round seven (3rd to 5th September).

Bennetts British Superbike Championship Series Director Stuart Higgs said:

"Since the government’s roadmap was published in late February, we have been in constant contact with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to understand its implications for spectator attendances. Unfortunately, the DCMS is still not in a position to confirm what capacities will apply prior to 21 June.

"With the start of the season rapidly approaching, and to offer the best possible chance of having all our fans back trackside, we have made decisive changes to the calendar to deliver the best opportunity for this to happen as we look ahead positively to our 25th Anniversary year."
