17-year old wins Superstock 1000 race on ZX-10R
Young Superstock rider told he was 'too young' for top flight class
17-YEAR OLD Danny Buchan took the win in the British Superbike Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race at Brands Hatch on Monday.
The win is the first for the all-new Kawasaki ZX-10R in its first outing in the top-flight Metzeler National Superstock 1000 class.
Buchan spent the race fighting it out with HM Plant Honda rider Jason O'Halloran and GBmoto Racing's Tristan Palmer - both on Fireblades.
However, Buchan didn't have it all his own way and was second place on the last lap, with O'Halloran in the lead. Coming into Clearways, Buchan got hard on the power and beat O'Halloran's 'Blade in a drag race to the line.
After the race Danny Buchan said: “It was a bit tight in the end but we knew the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R had the pace in qualifying so it was up to me to get out there and push for the win. When I took the lead I knew that Jason O’Halloran would fight back but as soon as he did I reacted to him, kept it tight at Druids and controlled the race. When he came by on the final lap I knew I had the power and drive out of Clearways so I could have slip-streamed him but I reacted instantly and got on the power instead. There was no way I was letting him past. There have been a few people saying I’m too young for Superstock and not aggressive enough, but now they know how it is.”
