New MV Agusta Superveloce 98 celebrates Italian legend’s first engine

In the 80th anniversary year of its legendary 98 engine, the MV Agusta Superveloce 98 celebrates the birth of one of motorcycling’s most famous brands

MV Agusta Superveloce 98 special edition

The MV Agusta Superveloce 98 is named after MV’s first engine and is the latest special edition bike from the Italian manufacturer.

We wrote earlier this year that MV Agusta is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its 98 engine in 2023, and the brand itself is now officially recognising the milestone with a new special edition of the Superveloce.

As usual with MV special editions, the main draw is the paint, which is a deep red as a nod to that used on the MV 98 when it was first built in the post-war 1940s.

The technical base of the Superveloce means a 798cc three-cylinder engine producing 147bhp and capable of a top speed of 149mph.

A number of exclusive features are available on the bike, as you might expect. These are as follows:

  • Titanium intake and exhaust valves
  • Dashboard TFT 5.5-inch colour display
  • Cruise control
  • Launch control
  • FLC (Front Lift Control)
  • Bluetooth
  • GPS
  • MV Ride App for navigation mirroring, app-controlled engine, rider aids setup
  • Fuel Cap (with leather strap)
  • Alcantara rider and passenger seat
  • Mobisat anti-theft system with geolocation

Choosing the Racing Kit will also equip the bike with a triple-outlet Arrow exhaust, special Racing Kit map for the ECU, passenger seat cover, customised motorcycle cover, and a certificate of origin.

The original MV Agusta 98 after which the new Superveloce special edition is named with first designed in 1943 when Count Domenico Agusta understood that Italy would be in need of small-capacity motorcycles in the post-war world, not aeroplanes. The ultimate goal of the bike was to be accessible and functional. It is hard to overstate the leap that MV has made since then to become one of the most prominent luxury motorcycle brand, something which, ironically, the Superveloce 98 epitomises.
