Harley-Davidson unveils XG750R flat track racer

But it’s not being put on sale… yet

HARLEY-DAVIDSON has today unveiled its first flat track race bike in 44 years – the XG750R.
It’s designed specifically for competition and will make its race debut tomorrow at the AMA Pro Springfield Mile in Illinois before going on to compete in the AMA Pro Flat Track series, where it'll be fielded by the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle factory team.

The XG750R is powered by a Vance & Hines-tuned version of the liquid-cooled 750cc V-twin ‘Revolution X’ engine from the Harley Street 750. Vance & Hines has also been involved with building the bike’s frame and has made that badass-looking exhaust.

Harley has said that it won’t be offered for sale ‘at this time’. Whether that means it’ll eventually make it to showrooms remains to be seen but give it a set of lights and indicators, clocks, and maybe even a front brake and with looks like that, Harley could have a hit on its hands.

Speaking about the XG750R, Kris Schoonover, Harley-Davidson's racing manager said:

‘Vance & Hines has unlocked the potential Harley-Davison engineers designed into the Revolution X engine. After decades of flat-track racing success behind the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat track motorcycle, we knew it was time to develop the next-generation Harley-Davidson to compete in one of the best spectator racing sports out there today.’

Great looking bike!

HD has been pulling this nonsense with the flat-track 750s for 40 years. They race the bike and then put something together that "sort of" looks like the flat-tracker for the showroom. However, when the public isn't fooled, HD pulls the plug because of "poor sales." Duh! It wasn't what the customers wanted. Get a clue, HD.

I had the vague impression that Septic flat trackers were only allowed to be 750cc if they were using stone age technology. The Street 750 is an OHC - ain't that too new fangled?

It's OHC, not DOHC, so they didn't go all tech crazy on us.
