We’re only three months into the year, but the Philippines is well on its way to eclipsing the 500,000 mark for motorcycles sold in 2025.

The Philippines’ motorcycle industry is on an upward trajectory, as a total of 447,865 bikes have been sold to customers in the first quarter of the year thus far. It’s worth noting that the number sold in the Asian country so far, will be far more than are expected to sell in the UK in the entire year - around 116,000 were sold here in 2024.

The small island consists of around 110 million people, and many are responsible for the outrageous sales numbers. According to data from the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI), the first quarter sales in the Philippines rose 10 per cent from the same period in 2024.

Furthermore, domestic production is also peaking as more than 232,000 motorcycles were assembled locally in the first two months of the year.

The Philippines has five big players in the country’s motorcycle scene to thank for the numbers, which are Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and TVS.

The five of them are responsible for sales amounting to roughly 80 per cent of the overall total. Indian manufacturer TVS is the least high-profile of the five, but it has managed to build itself a capable following in the Philippines as a result of its affordable small-displacement bikes.

Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) also indicated that banks’ consumer loans to residents expanded by 24.4 per cent year-on-year in January, as well as 24.1 per cent in February, and this is mainly due to increased credit card and motor vehicle loans.

The sales numbers, while huge and impressive, fall in line with what India is currently achieving, as people in both the Southeast Asian countries not only buy bikes for fun, but as a go-to means of transportation. Honda sold close to six million motorcycles in India last year as a case in point as to how well business is booming for one of the largest countries on the Asian continent.
