A fatal attack has taken place in Romania as an Italian motorcycle rider was killed by a bear, one day after posting pictures and videos of himself surrounded by the animal.

Omar Farang Zin was riding the scenic Transfagarsan mountain road during a holiday trip, before being mauled to death by a bear, which was later shot and killed.

Romanian authorities have confirmed Zin got off his motorcycle to try to feed the bear. Local media also reported the tragedy which said the bear dragged him into a ravine.

It was later confirmed by local authorities that Zin had pictures and videos of himself with a bear approaching him.

The bear is thought to have attacked him, which included dragging Zin into the forest as his fellow motorcyclists, who were at the scene, called emergency services.

Armand Chiriloiu, director of the Arges Forestry Directorate told Observator News: "He got off the motorcycle and offered the bear food. The Italian tourist's phone was also found, which contained some pictures prior to the attack. With the bear approaching... pictures, close-ups.”

Firefighters, forestry authorities, and police all arrived on the scene and found Zin’s body. However, a report from Romanian news outlet, the Observator, said they too were in danger of being attacked by the bear.

It’s thought that close to 30 people have been killed by bears in the last two decades, in Romania, and this is the latest incident while a 72-year-old Scottish tourist was also killed by a bear a few months ago.
