Yamaha will shift its focus to young riders in UK motocross in 2024, as it becomes the Japanese marque’s “primary focus”.

Yamaha says it is “amplifying” the support it gives to UK motocross riders at 65cc, 85cc, and 125cc levels in 2024, as Yamaha UK shifts its “primary focus” this year to “providing support to youth motocross”.

Support will be offered through the YZ bLU cRU programme, which in the UK is headed up by former rider, Jeff Perrett. Said support includes technical assistance, coaching, and mentoring “from some of the biggest names in off-road,” Yamaha says. Those on the YZ bLU cRU programme who are racing an ACU-approved championship also benefit from apparel, graphics, and discounts on Yamaha YZ motorcycles and parts at Yamaha Off-Road dealers.

Additionally, “Entrance into the bLU cRU Cup will provide ACU-approved championship competitors with the opportunity to compete for one of 120 places in the 2024 YZ bLU cRU Cup SuperFinale.”

Sign-ups for the Yamaha YZ bLu cRU programme close on 28 February at 23:00 GMT.

Matt Taylerson, Yamaha Motor UK Divisional Manager for Marketing, said: “We feel incredibly proud to be offering valuable support within various aspects of Youth motocross in 2024. Bolstering talent that floods from the UK is a huge priority. The continuation of our widely successful bLU cRU programme is another area of great interest for Yamaha, as we aim to drive and encourage progression for riders who compete within ranks of European and global motocross.

“As we aspire to create a lasting impact on the future of the sport, we believe it is our duty to open as many doors as possible, allowing emerging racing prospects the opportunity to showcase their abilities and giving them a push towards achieving their career aspirations.”
