Kawasaki KX327 motocrosser and KX327X enduro two-strokes revealed

Kawasaki has turned back the clock and fired the two-stroke wars back into life with the KX327 MX and KX327X enduro bikes.

Just when it looked like the two-stroke was destined to remain a nostalgic footnote in off-road motorcycling, Kawasaki has dragged the technology firmly back into the spotlight with the launch of not one, but two all-new fuel-injected smokers for 2027.

The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed its return to the adult two-stroke market with the KX327 motocrosser and KX327X enduro model, marking the firm's first serious foray back into the segment for decades.

And while the idea of a new two-stroke might sound like a rose-tinted throwback, the technology within these two bikes is anything but. At the heart of both sits Kawasaki's first fuel-injected single-cylinder two-stroke engine. It's a significant step for a brand that built much of its off-road reputation on lightweight, hard-hitting two-stroke machinery before emissions regulations and changing market demands pushed the industry towards four-strokes.

The new 327cc engine combines a dual-injection fuel system with an electronically controlled exhaust power valve, which is claimed to deliver a sharp throttle response and lightweight feel, while eliminating some of the traditional headaches associated with ‘smoker’ ownership.

Most notably, riders won't need to fiddle with jetting as conditions change, as Kawasaki says the fuel injection system automatically compensates for altitude and weather, helping maintain consistent performance whether you're riding at sea level or up in the mountains.

Electric start comes as standard, while handlebar-mounted power mode selection allows riders to tailor the engine's character to conditions. A single-shaft balancer has also been fitted to reduce vibration and smooth power delivery.

The KX327X is aimed squarely at enduro and cross-country riders. It gets an 8.5-litre fuel tank, a six-speed gearbox with an ultra-low first gear, hydraulic clutch operation and an 18-inch rear wheel. The chassis boasts KYB suspension, Nissin brakes and Kawasaki's aluminium perimeter frame.

For motocross riders, the KX327 shares much of the same hardware but switches to a five-speed transmission and a 19-inch rear wheel better suited to life on track.

Both models feature Renthal handlebars, Excel rims, and they get smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki's Rideology app.

The new KX327 and KX327X are scheduled to arrive in dealerships from January 2027, with UK pricing yet to be announced.
