Kawasaki GPz900 ‘Top Gun’ replica gets fully restored ahead of auction
This Kawasaki GPz900 ‘Top Gun’ replica has been fully restored ahead of going up for auction in August.

Tom Cruise rode the iconic Kawasaki GPz900R in the movie Top Gun in 1986, and now Iconic Auctioneers has a replica of that bike which is set to go under the hammer, on August 22.
The bike was fully restored in 2022 at “great expense”, according to the auction house. As part of its rebuild the bike has been painted in the correct colour scheme (black and red) with decals also replicating the bike used in the film. It is UK registered and offered with current V5C documents.
The bike’s new owner will be given a history file containing restoration photos, old MOTs and numerous invoices. The auction company also says the bike is in running order and is now exempt from the need of an MOT.

If you’re a fan of Top Gun, and Cruise, knowing you can bid on a replica of the bike he used in the film is likely to be of interest to you. The estimate for this bike is between £5,000 and £7,000, and it will be auctioned at the Silverstone Circuit.
The 1986 Kawasaki GPZ900 model features a liquid-cooled, transverse four-cylinder engine capable of producing 115bhp at 9,500rpm and 63 Ib-ft of torque at 8,500rpm.
Following the first movie in 1986, Top Gun: Maverick was released in 2022. Cruise rode a Kawasaki H2 in that film, along with an appearance from his old set of wheels, the Kawasaki GPz900R.
