Isle of Man TT organisers are welcoming written submissions as part of their new “sustainability review” of the Sidecar class.

Sidecar racing was suspended at the 2026 TT following a series of huge crashes during the opening week. Following an initial review of the incidents, the TT is now going to perform a deeper assessment to understand the future of sidecar racing at the event.

The review is set to consider the viability and sustainability of Sidecar racing at the Isle of Man TT, and it will do this by examining various sporting, technical and operational factors.

The review will also be supported by several specialist panels, according to TT organisers, who will offer advice and expertise across several key areas, including technical regulations, race organisation, and competitor representation.

The TT is also welcoming written submissions from competitors, teams, officials, industry representatives, and spectators, as well as “any other interested parties”. All written submissions need to be sent to the official Isle of Man government website, and they must be sent before midnight on 30 June.

Finally, the review will consider feedback and information received, while a detailed assessment of historical and forecast participation levels, incident data, operational considerations and wider indicators will be revealed. The final report is set to be completed by the end of July 2026 and will be published at the same time.

Gary Thompson MBE, BEM, Clerk of the Course, said this about the announcement:

“The decision to suspend the Sidecar class during this year’s event was not taken lightly. Sidecars have a long and important history at the Isle of Man TT and are valued by competitors, teams, officials and fans alike.

”However, this review is not solely a response to the events of this year. It will consider the Sidecar class over a number of years, including participation trends, technical development, incident data and its long-term sustainability within the Isle of Man TT.

“This review will examine a wide range of factors and we are keen to hear from all those with an interest in the sport. Alongside the evidence submitted, it will assess a range of relevant data sets to help ensure that any conclusions and recommendations are informed by both experience and objective evidence.

“We are committed to ensuring that the process is open, balanced and evidence-led. The Isle of Man TT has continually evolved throughout its history and it is important that we approach this review in the same spirit.”
